What Is an Electrical Panel Upgrade?
Your electrical panel (also called a breaker box or service panel) receives power from the utility and distributes it to every circuit in your home. A panel upgrade replaces an outdated, damaged or undersized panel with a new one. A service upgrade, such as 100 amps to 200 amps, also increases the total electrical capacity coming into the house.
Many homes in Sterling Heights, Warren, Troy and across Metro Detroit were built when households used far less power. Today's central air, electric ranges, EV chargers, heat pumps, hot tubs and home offices can push an older panel past what it was designed to handle. Some older panels, including fuse boxes and certain Federal Pacific and Zinsco models, are also known safety concerns.
We start with an on-site evaluation, tell you plainly whether you need a panel replacement, a full service upgrade, or neither, and give you a firm price before any work begins.

Electrical Panel Upgrades Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most. Still unsure? Reach out any time.
(810) 397-2401Common signs are frequently tripping breakers, a fuse box, a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel, scorch marks, rust, a buzzing or warm panel, and no room to add circuits. If you're adding an EV charger, central air or an addition, your service may also need more capacity. A quick in-home inspection will tell you for sure.
Cost depends on the size of the service (100A versus 200A), the condition and location of your existing panel and wiring, and what the utility and local inspector require. We provide a free in-home estimate with a firm written price before any work begins.
A panel replacement swaps the panel and breakers. A service upgrade increases the amperage coming into your home, for example from 100 to 200 amps, and usually includes a new panel and may involve the service entrance and meter connection. We'll recommend only what your home actually needs.
If you're adding an EV charger, heat pump, central air, a hot tub, an addition or electric appliances, 200 amps is usually worth it. If your current service handles your loads and the panel is in good condition, a panel replacement alone may be enough.
Power is off while the old panel is swapped for the new one. We'll tell you in advance how long to plan for, and we schedule the work around your day. We test every circuit before we leave.
Panel replacements and service upgrades are generally permitted and inspected work. We'll explain what applies to your address during the estimate.
Some insurers ask about, or won't cover, certain older panels such as fuse boxes and known problem brands. Check with your insurance provider. We can document what is installed and what has been replaced.
